The Barkworthy Benefits of Brewer’s Yeast

The Barkworthy Benefits of Brewer’s Yeast

If you’re part of the Little Hunter pack, you already know that we recently perfected our meal recipes by swapping processed vitamin packs for more even nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables.

Another small change? We’re now using brewer's yeast in our recipes instead of nutritional yeast. Here’s why.

B Vitamins

Unless fortified, nutritional yeast lacks B12, which is essential for your dog’s growth and overall health. B12 plays a vital role in:

  • Digestion
  • Metabolism
  • Cell growth
  • Brain and nervous system

Brewer’s yeast naturally contains a more comprehensive range of B vitamins, including B12 to help keep your pup in tip-top shape!

Minerals

In addition to vitamins, brewer’s yeast also has beneficial minerals, like chromium and selenium.  Chromium helps regulate your pup’s blood sugar levels while selenium has powerful antioxidant properties.

Neither of these trace minerals is naturally found in nutritional yeast.

Immune system

Beta-glucans, types of soluble fiber, are naturally found in brewer’s yeast. Their superpower? They can activate innate immune cells, helping boost the immune system and fight off diseases. Beta-glucans may even lower the risk of heart disease.

Skin and Coat Health

One of the major benefits brewer’s yeast is known for is its ability to support healthy skin and a shiny coat. It does so with help from powerful antioxidants that can help relieve dry or itchy and may even improve shedding.

Bonus Benefit: Natural Flea Repellent

Some pet owners have found that brewer’s yeast is an effective flea repellent, thanks to the thiamine found in it. Thiamine produces a very slight smell that, while usually unnoticed by both dogs and owners, minuscule pests like fleas find unattractive.

The Best Fit for Your Dog’s Favorite Recipes

Both brewer’s and nutritional yeast can be beneficial for dogs, but they have different properties that can make one a more suitable choice over the other in certain cases, like in crafting our Little Hunter recipes.

Brewer’s yeast is the better fit when it comes to creating the ultra-nutritious, tasty food you and your pup know and love. While your dog likely won’t even notice this change, we’re committed to keeping our pack informed so you can continue to feel great about our raw food.

One of the best decisions we've made for our dog
Since we switched Chief to a fully raw diet 6 months ago we’ve seen amazing changes in him! He’s less bloated and is very lean now!( more defined muscles ) His teeth are way more clean on raw. He doesn’t suffer from itchy skin anymore, his coat is naturally shiny now!
